all facing the center.

Al 1-4 All to the center dancing "side and close"
       and "side and close" to the right and then to the left.
   5-6 All set right and left facing the center.
   7-8 All turn single to the right halfway, to face out.
A2 1-4 The circle formation dances away from the
       center "side and close" and "side and
       close" to the left and then to the right.
   5-6 All set left and right.
   7-8 All turn single to the left to face center.
Bl     Hey of three figure.
   1-8 Dance a right shoulder gipsy with the
       partner and then a left shoulder gipsy with
       the person, who was originally behind.
Variation: the men dance this track facing
the center. That means: move sideways to the
right, then to the left and again to the right.
B2 1-4 Men 4 steps to the center, turn to the left
       and 4 steps away from the center, while the
       girls dance 4 steps out, turn to the left
       and dance in for 4 steps.
   5-8 Swing contra (new partner).

       places (the outside contra couple making an
       arch),and all turn away from each other to
       face the dancer on the other side of them (4 steps).
       New contra couples take inside hands and.
       change places (the outside contra couple
       making an arch), and turn away from each
       other to face original contra again (4 steps).
B2 1-8 Hands four to make a clover formation:
       outside couple makes the arch and inside
       couple ducks through the arch, turns away
       from each other bringing inside hands over
       their heads. Swing in clover formation once
       and a half, finishing facing new couple.

       facing 4th lady, and 4th man facing 1st lady);
       all swing original partners, finishing in
       square formation with lst couple in 2nd couple's
       original place, 2nd couple in 1st place, 3rd

Repeat once more with side couples as head couples.

FORTY BARS

or THE DRUNK'S DELIGHT

Music : 40 bar reel, e.g. The Duchess of Buccleug,
Form : Four couples in a square

Al 1-8 1st and 3rd couple dance right and left
       through, starting by crossing with opposite
       while 2nd and 4th couple dance right and
       left through, starting by changing places
       with partner. (This figure is called
       "double right and left through.)
A2 1-4 1st and 3rd couple dance half a ladies’
       chain (the men dancing into their partner's
       place while the ladies cross over, giving
       right hand; then the men turn the approaching
       lady by the left hand, as in Parson's
       Farewell). Meanwhile, 2nd lady and 4th man
       cast into top place and cross over, giving
       left hand, while 2nd man and 4th lady cast into
       bottom place and cross over, giving left hand.
   5-8 2nd and 4th couple dance half a ladies’ chain
       as above, while 1st man and 3rd lady cast up
       and lst lady and 3 man cast down and cross
       over,. giving left hand, all finishing in two
       lines of four 
Bl 1-8 The line with 1st man in top place dances
       back to back with the person in the opposite
       line one place down, passing left shoulder
       to begin with. All set to the same person
       and change places, giving right hand.
       (Those who do not have somebody facing them
       for the back to back, dance the back to back
       around an imaginary person, then set and
       turn single.)
B2 1-8 The line with the 3rd lady in top place
       dances back to back with the person in the
       opposite line one place down, passing right
       shoulder to begin with. All set to the same
       person and change places, giving left hand.

PARTY AT ZEIST

Music : Bolger's Hornpipe, Sharp's Hornpipe,
or a hornpipe of a similar speed.
Longways, duple minor, improper.
A lot of room between the couples.
Step : A very relaxed one-two—three—hop throughout the dance.

Al 1-4 Back to back with corner, starting left shoulder.
   5-8 Turn corner left arm (underarm grip) two and
       a half times (progression) into a
A2 1-4 Varied form of the North Country ladies’
       chain across the set and back. Always two
       bars for one crossing. (Keep it wide!) Then
       giving left hands to the men, the ladies
       pass under the men's left arms. As soon as
       they have passed under these arms, the men
       change hands and turn towards the ladies to
      lead them round. The ladies end not too far
      from each other.
Bl 1-8 The ladies cross over left shoulder (1 bar)
       and turn left (1 bar). This movement is
       repeated 3 times. Having danced on the spot
       for 1 bar, the men cross right shoulders on
       the second bar, turn right, cross right
       shoulders again, etc. On each bar either
       the ladies or the men cross.
B2 1-4 The ladies turn exactly twice by the left
       arm (underarm grip), while the men describe
       a square or a circle clockwise around them.
   5-8 The men turn twice by the right arm, while
       the ladies describe a square or a circle
       counterclockwise around them,

English folkdancing are held at the Henri Dunant House at Zeist.

DINE'S WALTZ

(for wife) Jaap Krug (1979)
A quiet romantic waltz, 32 bars.
Men in the inner circle facing their partners
in the outer circle.

Al 1-2 Giving right hands to partners, balance
       forwards and back.
   3-4 Keeping right hands partners change places,
       the men making a quarter turn to the right,
       the ladies passing under the men's arms and
       making a 3/4 turn to the left ("Curlique").
   5-8 Turn partners once (right hand).
A2 1-4 The men move clockwise around the outer
       circle, while the ladies dance counter-clock-
       wise around the inner circle.
       All turn left and dance back.
   5-8 Partners turn left hand once and a bit. Men
       now face the next lady on the diagonal.
Bl 1-8 With this lady balance forwards and back,
       taking right hands. Then "Box the gnat",
       i.e. change places, the ladies passing under
       the raised arms. End facing each other
       (still on the diagonal).
   5-8 Still with right hands joined all start a
       circular hey (men moving clockwise). After
       having passed partners by the left all come
       to ballroom hold with the third dancer one meets.
B2 1-4 Waltz counter-clockwise around the circle
       and end with the men facing the wall.
   5-8 Two chassés moving counter-clockwise and ;
       two clockwise. Drift apart at the end,
       taking right hands.

(For those who have plenty of room.)

THE HOTCH POTCH

Music A 32 par jig played twice,
Sicilian Circle, The couples with the men
in the Outer Circle are first Couples,

Al 1-8 The first couples cross diagonally between
       their second couples (ladies in front) to
       the place of the next first couple (exactly
       2 bars)  dance behind the next second couple
       and come in the same way back to places, i.e.
       first Crossing ang then Passing behind,
A2 1-8 They continue with the same figure in the
       opposite direction,
Bl 1-8 The second couples dance behind their first
       couples to the next second couple's place,
       (2 bars), cross diagonally to one second
       place farther (2 bars), and come back home
       in the same way (first passing behind).
B2 1-8 They continue with the same figure in the
       opposite direction.
A3,4  The figures of A1 and A2.and Bl and B2. are
      danced simultaneously.
      Every 2 bars 2 couples are passed. 
B3 1-8 Double figure of eight with own contra 
       couple. Again the first couples start
       crossing diagonally. The second couples 
       start continuing on the outside.
B4 1-4 Back to back with this same couple. Walking
       step. The first couple starts by passing on.
       the inside.
   5-6 Set right and left to partner. 
   7-8 First couple casts and second couple moves up.

WHITSUN CAMP DANCE

Music A medium-speed reel or Jig.
Couples in a circle, facing CCW

Al 1-4 Taking nearer hands and starting with out-
       side foot the couples walk four steps
       counter-clockwise and then do a California
       Twirl i eh partners change places, the
       ladies passing under the men's arms, to end
       facing clockwise.
   5-8 Repeat 1-4 in the opposite direction. End
       hear partner.
A2 1-4 Balance out and in twice and at the end take
       ballroom hold (men facing the wall).
   5-8 Partners dance counter-clockwise along the
       circle (balance step).
Bl 1-3 Partners face each other and, extending arms
       to the side, hold hands at shoulder level
       ("Butterfly hold").
       The men face the wall. All set counter-clock-
       wise, clockwise, counter-clockwise.
    4 All set clockwise and the lady is "wrapped",
      i.e. while holding hands she is turned 3/4 to
      the left, passing under her partner's left
      arm, the man making a quarter turn to the
      left. All now face counter-clockwise. The
      lady's arms are crossed (left arm under). The
      man holds his right arm behind his partner's back.
  5-7 In this position all dance counter-clockwise
      along the circle, using a balance step.
  8   While the lady moves on, the man balances
      backwards. He takes his partner's right hand
      from his left hand into his right one, to
      make her face him.
B2 1-4 Circular hey, starting right hand. The men
      move counter-clockwise. Balance step. All
      pass four dancers.
  5-8 Swing the fifth dancer (new partner). 

OH HETTY, DEAR HETTY !

A quiet 32 bar reel or jig with a well
phrased music.
Sicilian Circle, The couples with the men
in the outer circle are first couples, In order
to start the dancers 1n the inner circle face
the dancers who were originally behind them.

Al 1-2 The dancers in the outer circle pass their
       contraries, left shoulder and make a half turn
       right, while the dancers in the inner circle
       do the same with those who were originally
       behind them.
  3-4  Everybody passes the same dancer left shoulder
       again (no turn) .
  5-6 The dancers in the outer circle pass those
      who were originally behind them right shoulder
      and make a half turn left, while the dancers
      in the inner circle do the same with their
      contraries.
  7-8 All return home, passing the same dancer right
      shoulder again (no turn).
A2 1-4 All turn partners with the right hand half
       way and still holding hands partners change
       places, the ladies turning under the arms of
       the men, ("Box the gnat") .
  5-8 Partners back to back.
Bl 1-4 The men turn each other with the left arm
       (underarm grip) 1% times, while the ladies
       describe a half circle clockwise around their
       partners, to meet them (first progression).
  5-8 All swing partners and end the swing facing
      the direction in which they started it 
      {First man and second woman facing the wall).
B2 1-4 The ladies turn the lady of the next couple
       11/2 times (left arm), while the men describe
       a half circle clockwise around their partners
       to meet them(second progression) .
  5-8 Swing partners. At the end do not make any
       extra turns, but go straight into the next round.

KITTY'S WALTZ

Music : “Vier Weverkens”.
Form : Couples in a circle. Ballroom hold.
Men facing clockwise.

Al 1-3 Waltz round with partner one and a half times.
       Drop hands at the end.
   4.  All make an individual half turn to the right,
       ending almost back to back with partner. The
       men, who face clockwise, end a little nearer
       to the wall.
  5-8 Right hand turn with the next lady ("second
      partner") not quite once round. End in ballroom- hold.
A2 1-4 Like Al, but with "second partners".
  5-8 Right hand turn with the next lady ("third
       partner") one and a half times. End back to
       back with her, facing "fourth partner".
A2 1-4 Like Al, but with "second partners".
  5-8 Right hand turn with the next lady ("third
      partner") one and a half times. End back to
      back with her, facing "fourth partner".
Bl 1  A chassé diagonally forwards to the right.
  2-4 Set and honor in the same direction, taking
      leave from "fourth partner".
  5-8 The same movement diagonally forwards to the
      left, coming back to back with "fourth partner"
      and honoring the next dancer ("new first partner").
  9-10 Half a right hand turn with this dancer.
  11-12 "Box the gnat',i.e. change places, still hol-
        ding right hands, the lady turning under the
        man's arm. Come to starting position.
