Smanee
Square
MUSIC: Own tune
CHORUS: A (3 bars) Allemande left corner. B Grand chain half-way, meeting partner with right hand to balance forward and back. FIGURE: A First couple out to the right, full figure-eight through this couple (lady through the gap and turn right, man through and turn left, etc.) B Those four people circle left. The same two couples swing, the ones finishing in the middle facing the threes. Ones repeat figure with threes, then with fours, finishing home. CALL: Allemande left on the corner — Grand chain upon the Swanee River, Far, far away (Forward and back). There's where my heart is turning ever; There's where the old folks stay. First couple: The lady round the lady and the gent around the gent; Now the gent around the lady and the lady round the gent. Then you circle four; circle right there, And you swing, and you swing, and you move on round the square. It's the lady .... move on round the square. It's the lady .... Then you circle four; once around you roam, And you swing, and you swing, and you swing your partner home. It's an allemande left on the corner .... ROUTINE: Chorus, Figure for the First couple, Chorus, Second couple, Chorus, Third couple, Chorus, Fourth couple, Chorus.
You can change the words to suit yourself - for instance varying the rhyme SO that you name the new couple each time:
Then you circle four, circle for me, And you swing, and you swing, and move on to number three.
Use your imagination; you don't have to sing exactly the same words every time through.
