Teaching tips: The 2nd man should avoid a “twiddle” between stars by reaching directly from one star to the next. After the second star, the 2nd woman should be alert for the corner crossing. For an easier alternative, let the top two couples dance both stars as follows:

A1 1-4 ls and 2s star right (skipping).
A2 1-4 1s and 2s star left (skipping).
B1 1-2 1" corners cross right shoulder, while 3s set right and left.
3-4 2"" corners cross left shoulder, while 3s gypsy right shoulder halfway.
        All progressed but improper.
B2 1-4 Partners set right and left, then gypsy right shoulder halfway.

I've always loved this tune and when I heard it anew as a choreographer, my first thought was, “Aha! A dance tune!,” but I was discouraged by its four-bar phrases. Sometime later, Gene Murrow and I were discussing tunes, and he said that he thought this one would workjust fine, in spite of its short phrases. Ever one to rise to a challenge, I wrote this dance. The title, a pun on “Gene's Gamble,” is my way of thanking him for championing my dances right from the start.
