**JACK'S MAGGOT**\\
Over twenty dances named for the ubiquitous "Jack" can
be found in the early eighteenth century, possibly
references to the Jacobites, who supported the return of
the Stuarts to the throne. A variant of this dance
continued in eighteenth-century country dance collections
with new tunes entitled "The Rakes of Mellow" and "Jack's
Meggot."
